Both herbs and spices enhance the flavor of foods, and many have medicinal or nutritional properties. Spices are the aromatic parts of plants that thrive in tropical regions – usually the dried buds, fruits berries, roots or bark. Herbs are the leaves of fresh or dried plants. Today and ever-widening range of fresh and dried herbs, and packaged spices, is available in supermarkets. Cooking with herbs can make a significant difference to a dish. Fresh herbs can be easily grown at home in the garden, or in a pot of window box .
